Spammers Attacking Mail Servers PDF Print E-mail

Spammers have been attacking our mail servers. They are using brute force attacks to discover customer email passwords allowing them to use our service to send spam email. The upshot being that we are blocked from sending email which effects all customers.

Please can you ensure that you remove any unused mailboxes; and that the passwords associated with the remaining ones are not obvious passwords. Examples of weak passwords are functional names like: staff or reception or peoples names.

We have deployed a number of countermeasures to protect the service; but by following the steps above you can help

Corruption issues were identified with db1.pobox.co.uk this afternoon. A full backup and restore has been completed and the server is back to operating normally.
