POBOX Internet - Secure Webhosting and Email Solutions
Closing Down PDF Print E-mail

Please note that after over 20 years in the business POBOX is closing its Internet services.

We were one of the first ISP's in the country and have experienced first hand the changes to the Internet over these years. However things have moved beyond what a small number of techies can keep up with, so now is the time to bow out gracefully.

This will be a gradual process, with web hosting and email services coming to an end by the close in the next twelve months.

With this in mind please note the following:

  1. No new domains will be registered and the account signup scripts have been deactivated from today.
  2. Whilst web and email services can be associated with any domain that can be registered on the Internet, we will only act as registrar for NOMINET (.uk) domains that are associated with our TAG (POBOX). We look after a very small number of other domains and will contact the owners over the coming days.

Over the coming months individual notifications will be sent out to customers, advising them of their options. It has been fun and thanks for your support over the years.

Self Migration to New Web Servers PDF Print E-mail
Written by Support
Friday, 06 March 2015 12:49

We have recently deployed new web servers giving customers access to PHP versions 5.3 and 5.5. These new servers are connected to our existing web site data stores. This means that customers can take advantage of the new servers by simply changing the DNS IP Address (A record) or Alias (CNAME) associated with their website address. We have also provided customers with a tool to allow them to administer their own DNS domain records, allowing site migrate to one of the new servers to be conducted at their own convenience.

Four new servers have been deployed and have the following addresses:

  • ws220.pobox.co.uk - 217.27.240.220 (PHP5.3)
  • ws221.pobox.co.uk - 217.27.240.221 (PHP5.3)
  • ws222.pobox.co.uk - 217.27.240.222 (PHP5.5)
  • ws223.pobox.co.uk - 21727.240.223 (PHP5.3)

If you wish to take advantage and transfer your website to one of the new servers then simply change the DNS entry associated with your website address in DNS.

If your domain is hosted by us then please use our Customer Admin Portal (https://www.pobox.co.uk/admin/) and from the Manage Domains and Webs, edit the domain in question and update to move your site. We use CNAME records so all that is required is to change the value in the DATA box to reflect the server you want to use (please don't forget to leave a period at the end of the name). Click the [Update] button, and confirm it, then click [Update Serial] at the top of the form.

If your domain is hosted elsewhere then please change either the A record to the new IP address or the CNAME record to the new hostname.

Please note that you do not need to change the ftp login details for your site.

Regards

Note: This change does not apply to Windows hosted sites; it is for Unix/Linux only.

The Admin Console is to be Retired PDF Print E-mail
Written by Support
Friday, 23 January 2015 20:07

We are in the process of retiring the Admin Console. This involves migrating the last of the features over to the Customer Administration Portal. The main reason for doing so is that after nearly 15 years the Admin Console code cannot be migrated anymore and we need to upgrade the web servers we are using to host our tools.

The plan is to complete migrating capabilities to the Customer Admin Portal and then retire the Admin Console early in February.
